Guitar Magic
I’ve always been captivated by excellent guitar playing. I was too young when Jimi
Hendrix was alive to truly appreciate his genius. A few years ago, I became slightly
addicted to his mellow voice, and his lyrics that are as poetic as Dylan’s.
But it’s his amazing guitar riffs that I love most. He played so naturally, as if the guitar
was an extension of his body – picking the strings with his teeth, or holding it behind his
head. Though I can’t listen to music while I’m actually writing, I spent more than a few
nights playing Hendrix videos on YouTube.
He played so wicked good, you have to wonder if some magic was involved. And so, it
led me to thinking, what if there actually was some magic involved? And so, of course, it
led to a story. I even managed to include Jimi, and his magical guitar.
The Griffin’s Secret is a fantasy set in contemporary times. But because I also love
twisted fairy tales, it’s also a spin on an old Brothers Grimm tale, The Griffin.
And I just celebrated its book birthday! To add to the festivities, Kensington Publishing
is putting it on sale for only 99 cents through July 3. What could be sweeter than that?
Do you love reading stories with a musical influence, either old songs or current ones?
Do you have any favorite songs that grab you and don’t let go?
Here’s a peek at The Griffin’s Secret:

beloved will die. With his heart on lockdown, he keeps to himself—until a roadie gig
with Malcontent, the world’s most popular band, entwines his fate with sweet, wounded
Music is what Layla lives for. She has no choice. She’s bound by magic to serve
Malcontent, cursed to propel them to stardom with her musical powers. Then Jackson
